Tales From the UNKNOWN Author

Who is this M.I.B.? Could this be a photo of the elusive and secretive author, C. C. von Werkläag? YES!

I was fortunate enough to run into him a few years ago while we both enjoyed the tantalizing fare of an Italian restaurant on the edge of Lakewood, Ohio.

I asked Herr Werkläag what he was working on at that time and he replied "Trying everything in my power to keep THEM out!" Now, whether he meant "the public" or some more "Lovecraftian" menace I'm not sure.

If any of you have seen this fellow and know of his current whereabouts, please drop a comment here. In my opinion, this is one author to watch out for. I'm not certain if his works are currently available in the U.S.A., but the European editions are particularly mind-blowing and nerve-shattering! Whew!

HPL Sighted

What was HPL thinking when this shot was taken? Do you think he was pondering how best to write about "unspeakable" horrors from outside of our recognizable existence? Something "from beyond" the normal understanding of humankind? Or was he merely contemplating exactly how long he might have to sit there until he could get up and procure himself a bowl of ice cream? He seems so intensely focused, but on what? Obviously NOT the person taking the photograph.

Paving over the road of good intentions

Still a little fuzzy on the various ramifications of blogging. I read the pages of others and enjoy the idea of sharing personal interests and the like, but I want this Internet entry to be something more... I'm hoping to create a space where many others can share in the experience.

As an instructor I try to find new ways to interest my students in the materials I use. Perhaps even they will get something out of this page and may contribute via comments.

The intention is to keep a running log of class topics with links to those things we discuss and/or stories and articles we read in class. I also wish to veer off into my own side-interests from time to time - to track HPL on his journeys and to find other ties to the lands of weirdness - places (like this website) that border on other realms, known only through dreams and mad delirium.
